Homemade food…for Gus too!

Standard

As we all know, I’m trying to change my lifestyle (of eating poorly and not exercising enough) to a much better one! As I know it’s important for Collin and I to eat well, we want the newest member of our family {Gus} to eat healthily, as well. So, I did some research today and found some recipes I’m going to try out for him to try. I wanted to share them with you, as I know I have many friends that have pets and would might want these! ; )

Meatloaf for Dogs with Veggies

This meatloaf for dogs recipe steps out of the dog treat arena and more into the entree area.

It’s definately to share with others! (or save for a few meals…)

More and more dog guardians are cooking for their dogs.

Why?

Cooking for your dogs means you know exactly what they’re eating.

Protein, vegetables and dairy makes a dinner full of vitamins and nutrients. Even if you normally feed a high quality kibble, you gotta admit, fresh, minimally processed food has to be better for your pooch. 😉

Meatloaf with Vegetables (makes a great b’day “cake”)
Ingredients:
1/2 cup barley
4 cups lowfat, low-sodium chicken broth
1-1/2 pounds ground chicken or turkey
1/2 cup lowfat cottage cheese
2 whole eggs
1/2 cup rolled oats
3/4 cup finely chopped vegetables such as carrot, spinach, and zucchini
1 tablespoon olive oil

Directions:
Add barley and broth to saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 50 minutes. Set aside to cool.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large mixing bowl, add meat, cottage cheese, eggs, oats, veggies.
Mix thoroughly. Add cooled barley broth and the olive oil. Mix well.

Add mixture to loaf pan and bake for 1 hour or until done. Freezes well.

As I really liked that one, I also came across another one that sounded tasty!
Putting your loving dog on a healthy diet is really easy – all it really takes is heart and some simple cooking skills. With all the home made recipes for German Shepherds using natural ingredients, you will never run out of new meals that your dog can truly drool over. All you have to do now is come up with a diet plan for your dog, as consulted with your veterinarian.

One of the most typical recipes for homemade dog food combines meat, vegetables, and grains into one appetizing meal. One such meal specifically from home made recipes for German Shepherds calls for such natural ingredients:
2 lbs hamburger
10 oz shrimp or lobster
1 cup raw liver
1 boiled potato
2 cups of rolled oats
¼ cup blueberries
½ cup brown rice
¼ cup wheat germ
¼ cup brewer’s yeast and a tad of cinnamon.

Combine beef, boiled potato and shrimp or lobster and put all in a food processor.
Crush the blueberries into a mushy fruit paste.
Blend together all the ingredients and roll into a ball.
This is meant to be fed fresh and raw.

Another one of those healthy, yet delectable recipes for home made dog food is an all-natural dog food which has the following ingredients:
8 cups oats
2 cups brown rice
6 cups barley
2 lbs carrots (grated)
3-4 bunches of broccoli (stems grated and florets chopped)
6 zucchini (grated)
½ bunch parsley (chopped).

This treat is easy to make.
Using two 8 quart stock pots cook the oats, while in another pot brown rice and barley.
Then let cool, preferably over night.
Chop the vegetables and puree using a food processor.
Combine all the ingredients and shape into balls.
Freeze for future consumption.
This treat will have your dog begging for more and forgetting about dry tasteless dog food in an instant.

When you make your own dog food from recipes like these, keep in mind that when you’re using natural ingredients, the food spoils easily so you must just make enough food that could last for a span of a few days – depending on the shelf-life of the ingredients.

Natural ingredients in dog foods are very beneficial in providing your dogs with the proper minerals, vitamins and other nutrients that he needs. When you make your own dog food you are in control of your dog’s diet, so you are certain that your dog is getting all that he needs. So what are you waiting for? Get in that kitchen and whip your dog up the food he deserves.

Hope you all have fun trying out these awesome {NATURAL} recipes for our furry loved ones! ; )

Friends,

I have been trying to lose weight for several months now…successfully, but not as fast as I’d like!  I’m going to try a new program…the Arbonne program!  If you don’t know me well, you should know that I  L O V E  me some Arbonne!  {I actually started my own Arbonne business in 2010!}  I am wanting to start the detox FULL FORCE and see how much I can lose in the next couple of months! If any of you would like to know more about it, message me and we can chat!  I’m going to be posting recipes on here after I try them…letting you know if I {and the hubs} have enjoyed them or not!

I’m hoping that if anyone else is struggling with weightless, that this might be inspiring and encouraging, as it is providing great and helpful resources!

First week with his forever home…

Gus is doing GREAT!  He’s adjusted so well and we are head over heels IN LOVE with this sweet boy!  His housebreaking is still in progress, but his crating is getting much better!  We did decide to not crate at night and let him sleep with us…he’s just too sweet!  ; )

I’ve been on a craft hiatus, though I’ve got the itch again and need to get crafting!  I FINALLY (with the help of my WONDERFUL sister-in-law) cleaned out my crafting/junk/extra/catch-all/etc room out a couple of weeks ago…WOW!  I thought it was going to take up a minimum of 4 days, but it took about 2 hours (start to finish) to clean up! It had become one of those rooms that you shove and close…rarely opening the door, as a PILE would fall out on you!  Hahah!  With the move coming up, that made me feel a LOT more free!  I’m just needing to do the same to my bedroom now… Yay. Me.

Three weeks left and I’ll be at home full-time AND be a grandmother for the second time!  I can’t wait for that sweet baby to get here!  We are so blessed with Isy, can’t wait to meet Lily!  {Yes, I’m proud to say I’m a thirty-something grandmother!!! I mean, if you saw that beautiful face, you’d know why!}

Ok, friends!  I’ll be back to crafting {hopefully} this week!  Hope you’re all having a WONDERFUL weekend!

C & I took a trip, one of his Christmas presents from me, to Eureka Springs for the weekend. It was SOOOOOOO much fun! We stayed in The Original Treehouse Cottages and had a blast! Our cottage was awesome, complete with a double jacuzzi tub with a HUGE window in front of it, Queen bed, kitchenette, free wifi, HGTV with cable and a wrap-around balcony with a grill…and did I mention the PERFECT view of the outdoors?!?!?!

It was the sweetest weekend away, I think we’ve ever had! We were relaxed, drama-free and together…what could be better? We went to one of my favorite flea markets…I stumbled upon it a month ago with Leslie…and found a couple of treasures.

We also rode on scooters, from Black Jack Adventures. We buzzed around town, went to lunch at Local Flavor, shopped at The Leather store, the Life is Good store and a fun little shop attached to the Life is Good store, where we hit the shoe JACKPOT! Yes, feed the bad, bad habit! haha! The scooters were so fun, I was incredibly scared when we first got on them. I was stiff as a board and could hardly turn corners. It’s amazing how fast I got comfortable with it when we actually got on the open road. I was going up to 35 miles per hour and turning corners like a pro! The freedom and openness was absolutely liberating! I would LOVE to own one!

We had many sweet little visitors…a squirrel, Hello Kitty, more birds than I can count…it all felt like a fairytale. On the way home, we saw (counted) 52 hawks (something we do quite often!), 3 bald eagles (2 on ONE TREE!!!), an multiple deer. Perfect!

Though this trip was completely magical, it would not have been so perfect with out that prince charming, the man I get to call my husband. I never imagined I would find him. He’s perfect for me…keeps me grounded with his love and support! I am amazed every day that I get to spend the rest of my life with him because I love him more than anyone or anything!

I am the luckiest girl…Dream. Come. TRUE! ; ) I love you, CRB!!!
